How long can I stay in Georgia without a visa?
Checked on
Georgian law sets two visa-free regimes. Citizens of countries on the government's list can enter and stay without a visa for one full year. Other visa-exempt foreigners may stay up to 90 calendar days in any 180-day period. Staying past your lawful term means a penalty; until it's paid you're refused visas and entry.

One full year or 90 days
The Law on the Legal Status of Aliens sets the general rule: a foreigner who doesn’t need a short-term visa can enter and stay in Georgia “for a maximum of 90 calendar days in any 180-day period” (art. 10(2)). It then lets the government set a list of countries whose citizens can enter without a visa and stay “for one full year” (art. 10(3)).
That list is Government Ordinance No 255 of 5 June 2015. Its first note says citizens of the listed countries may enter and stay in Georgia without a visa for one full year. The ordinance has been amended eight times, most recently by Ordinance No 80 of 24 February 2026, and the consolidated text on matsne.gov.ge is paid, so this page doesn’t reproduce the current list of countries.
Other ways to enter without a visa
The law also allows visa-free entry for holders of certain countries’ visas or residence permits, for the period and on the conditions set by government ordinance (art. 10(3¹)), and for holders of a Georgian residence permit for the permit’s whole validity (art. 10(4)).
Staying too long
The law requires foreigners to leave Georgia before their lawful stay expires. Anyone whose lawful stay has expired must pay the penalty for unlawful stay set by Georgian legislation, before or after leaving, and is refused a visa and entry until it’s paid (art. 47(3)–(4)).
