Only spouse and minor children
The 2024 decree allows digital nomads and remote workers to bring the family members listed in art. 29(1), letters a) and b), of the immigration Testo unico, under that article’s conditions. Those letters cover:
- a spouse who is not legally separated and is at least 18;
- minor children, including the spouse’s children and children born outside marriage, who are unmarried, provided the other parent, if there is one, has consented.
Art. 29 also lists dependent adult children and dependent parents (letters c and d), but the decree does not include them. The Italian embassy in Tbilisi’s guidance confirms that reunification with adult children, even if dependent and fully disabled, or with parents is not provided for on this route.
Conditions from art. 29
Art. 29(3) of the Testo unico requires the person bringing family to show:
- housing that meets health and habitability standards, checked by the municipal offices;
- annual income from lawful sources of at least the annual amount of the assegno sociale, increased by half of that amount for each family member joining; for two or more children under 14, at least double the assegno sociale. Income of family members living with you counts.
Their permit
The decree says family members receive a residence permit for family reasons under art. 30 of the Testo unico, lasting as long as the worker’s permit. The Tbilisi embassy’s guidance says family visas are issued after the reunification nulla osta is received through the online channels.
