How much does a Schengen visa for Spain cost?

Checked on

The European Commission's guidance gives the Schengen short-stay visa fee as €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12. Under the Visa Code, children under six pay nothing. Lower fees apply to some nationalities, and a visa application centre may charge its own service fee on top.

Where the €90 comes from

Spain applies the common EU visa fee. Regulation 2019/1155 rewrote article 16 of the Visa Code to set the fee at €80 for adults and €40 for children aged 6 to 12. It also tells the Commission to assess every three years whether the amounts need revising and, if so, to change them by delegated act (art. 16(9)). The European Commission’s current guidance (page dated 2 December 2025) gives €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12.

Some consular pages are older. For example, the Spanish Consulate General in London’s Schengen visa page, dated 6 September 2024, still shows €80 and €40. The Commission’s figures are the more recent ones.

Who pays nothing or less

The Visa Code exempts children under six. It also lets states waive the fee for some groups, including children over 6 and under 18, holders of diplomatic and service passports, and people aged 25 or under going to seminars, conferences, or sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations (art. 16(5)). According to the Commission, nationals of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus pay €35, and nationals of Cabo Verde pay €67.50.

Service fee and currency

If you apply through an external visa application centre, the Commission says it may charge an extra fee. The Spanish Consulate General in London says you pay the visa fee in local currency when you submit the application, and that the amount changes with exchange rates. The Visa Code says amounts in other currencies are set and reviewed using the European Central Bank’s euro reference rate (art. 16(7)).
