When should I apply to renew my Turkish residence permit?
Checked on
Turkish law says you can apply to renew from 60 days before your residence permit expires, and in every case before it expires. You get a document that costs nothing, and with it you can stay in Turkey until the decision, even if your old permit has already ended. The renewed permit starts when the old one ends.

The 60-day window
The law sets a window: from 60 days before your permit expires until the day it expires (art. 24(2)). The regulation and the Presidency of Migration Management’s FAQ repeat it. Renewals are decided by the governorships (art. 24(4)).
Applying inside the window protects you. The law says the document you receive lets you stay in Turkey until the decision, even if your old permit runs out in the meantime. The renewed permit then starts from the end of the old one, so no time is lost.
If you miss the window
The Presidency’s general information page says that if you don’t apply to renew, the residence permit fee for the time you spent in Turkey without a permit is charged double, under Fees Law No. 492, art. 83. The law also says a deportation decision is taken against people who overstay their permit by more than 10 days without an acceptable reason (art. 54(1)(g)).
