How much income or savings do I need for a Turkish short-term residence permit?
Checked on
Turkey's regulation says your own declaration of sufficient means is the basis for a short-term permit. If it isn't convincing, you must prove means covering at least the net minimum wage per month. The Migration Presidency's document list for tourism-purpose applicants asks for at least 1.5 times the net minimum wage, earned over the last three months.
Key facts
| What | The law says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Legal requirement | Sufficient and regular means for the stay | Law 6458, arts. 7(1)(c), 15(1)(g) |
| Starting point | Your declaration is the basis (all permits except family and long-term) | Regulation, art. 22(6) |
| If your declaration isn’t convincing | Means covering monthly expenses at the net minimum wage valid in the year you apply | Regulation, art. 22(6)(a) |
| With family members | One third of the minimum wage for each family member including you, and in total at least the minimum wage | Regulation, art. 22(6)(b) |
| Third-party sponsors | Means cannot rest only on commitments by other people | Regulation, art. 22(6)(c) |
| Tourism-purpose applications | At least 1.5 times the net minimum wage alone; at least one minimum wage per family member when applying together; regular means: proven for at least the last three months | e-İkamet document list, section e |
Two levels of guidance
The regulation. Art. 22(6) says that for short-term and other permits (except family and long-term), the authority starts from your declaration of means. Only if it isn’t convincing does it ask for documents, and then it checks that you can cover monthly expenses at the net minimum wage, or one third of the minimum wage per family member with a total of at least one minimum wage. The Presidency of Migration Management’s FAQ says the same: for short-term permits your declaration is enough unless the authority asks for documents.
The tourism document list. The e-İkamet list of documents for short-term permits asks every applicant for “a document or declaration” of sufficient and regular means (item 7). In its section for tourism-purpose applicants it is stricter. It asks for one proof of income and defines sufficient income as at least 1.5 times the net minimum wage in force on the application date for a single applicant, or at least one minimum wage for each family member applying together (its example: four minimum wages for a family of four). Regular means income shown for at least the last three months.
The sources state the rule as a multiple of the minimum wage, not as a fixed amount, so the figure changes when Turkey’s minimum wage changes.
What counts as proof
The tourism section of the e-İkamet list accepts one of: a pension card and pension award letter; a bank book showing the last three months of transactions; a stamped and signed company letter; a document showing the last three months of bank deposit income; or, for rental income, the title deed and rental contract. The FAQ says documents from abroad need a notarised Turkish translation by a sworn translator.
