What you pay
The regulation requires the N-400 to be filed with the fee set in 8 CFR 106.2 (8 CFR 334.2(a)). USCIS publishes the current amounts in its fee schedule, Form G-1055. The edition dated 16 October 2026 lists the N-400 fee as $760 for a paper filing and $710 for an online filing. The USCIS N-400 page gives the same figures.
Reduced fee and fee waiver
According to the fee schedule, you pay $380 if your documented annual household income is not more than 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and you include supporting documentation. Certain applicants can ask for a full fee waiver with Form I-912 or a written request.
The USCIS N-400 page says you cannot file online if you ask for a reduced fee or a fee waiver: you must file a paper N-400. For a reduced fee you answer “Yes” in Part 10, Item 1, complete the rest of Part 10 and send $380 with the documents. For a waiver you send no fee and include Form I-912 or a written request with supporting documents.
How to pay
The fee schedule says a mailed application can be paid by credit, debit or prepaid card using Form G-1450, or by debit from a US bank account using Form G-1650. If you qualify for an exemption from electronic payment, you file Form G-1651 with the payment. Online filings are paid in the USCIS online account.
